Long post about Michael Holody at a University of Michigan athletics site.

Ryan Sosin, of the university’s media releations department, writes, “Michael Holody can sit back and take a deep breath now. In the four months since the U-M season ended in the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen, Holody has been jerked around the emotional spectrum. His wild ride from collegiate star to the newest member of Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids tested the All-American but could not stop him from reaching his goal of playing professional soccer.”

Read Sosin’s whole story here.

I’m pretty sure reader Bonji is a Michigan fan, so he’ll appreciate this one.

HARDEN HAPPY: And Nick Thomas of WeWantRapidman has written a piece for mlsnet.com about Rapids defender Ty Harden. Nick writes: “Harden was just happy to get back out on the field again. The 25-year-old central defender played a full 90 minutes for the first time in about a year Tuesday as the Colorado Rapids defeated local Metro State College 6-0 in a warmup game ahead of this weekend’s home opener against the Kansas City Wizards.” Here’s the story.

TAM A BELIEVER! And, as promised, Northern Ireland’s Derry Journal has a longer piece on Derry City’s signing of former Rapids striker Tom “Tam” McManus. “The surprise signing of Tam McManus (Thursday) has, according to Brandywell boss Stephen Kenny, given Derry City a chance of wrestling the Premier Division title away from Bohemians.” Read the whole story here.

THAT WAS QUICK: D.C. United has acquired the rights to former Rapids midfielder John DiRaimondo through the waiver draft. The entire United press release is here (although it’s not much more than what we have here). But there is a funny broadcast and P.A. request from the team at the end of the release.

TRAINER ON THE MOVE: Chris Litt , who spent the 2008 season as the head athletic trainer for the Rapids, been named assistant athletic trainer at the University of Arkansas. Litt will assist the school’s coordinator of athletic training and sports medicine, Joe Sheehan, with football. Here’s a post about that on a Razorbacks athletics site.

WARD’S BIG CHANCE: Chicago’s Southtown Star has a story about Tim Ward. The defender, who is getting a chance to start for the Chicago Fire this year, talks about not getting much of a chance with the Rapids. “I got to Colorado, and I just never played. I wasn’t even dressing,” Ward tells Nick Firchau of the Star. Kent McDill of MLSnet.com also has a story about Ward.

RUN, FORREST, RUN: Jose Romero’s Sounders FC blog reports that Kevin Forrest has cleared waivers and signed with Sounders FC. Forrest had been the property of the Rapids until being placed on waivers. He had to clear waivers late last week and decide whether Sounders FC was the best option for him after weighing offers from United Soccer Leagues First Division teams. Read the whole post here.

AND IN GOAL … The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the team has signed Mike Graczyk to a developmental contract. He joins San Jose after spending 2008 as part of the MLS goalkeeper pool. He trained with the Rapids, FC Dallas and the Earthquakes last season. His rights were traded from the Rapids to D.C. United during the offseason. Here’s the whole story on Our Sports Central.

SOUTH OF THE BORDER: Former Rapids defender Jose Burciaga may soon find his way into Mexico’s Primera Division. Goal.com reports that the one-time MLS standout landed a two-week trial with Tecos and could claim an open spot on the club’s roster. Here’s more from the Web site.

A QUICK ONE: Soccer365.com catches up with Ugo Ihemelu.

I hope Burciarga latches on in Mexico. The Rapids never knew what to do with him, which always seemed strange. Burciarga is a natural left-footed defender. I suspect Colorado will regret letting him go.

I am interested in seeing how Holody catches on here in Colorado. You might have heard a Go Blue or two from the press area during the Burgundy vs. Blue match. GO BLUE!
