Casey named MLS player of the week

Colorado Rapids forward Conor Casey, who registered three goals against the Galaxy on Saturday in Carson, Calif., was voted Major League Soccer’s Player of the Week for week three.
This marks the second time Casey has received the honor. Previously he won in week 27 of the 2008 season after he notched his first career hat trick in a 5-4 victory over the New York Red Bulls.
The player-of-the-week award is selected by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters. Here are my votes for week three:
FIRST PLACE (TIE): conor casey, colorado rapids; robbie findley, real salt lake
NAME/AFFILIATION: george tanner, ColoradoSoccerNow.com
COMMENTS: casey showed just how valuable he is to his club. in a game that had fine performances from omar cummings and landon donovan, it was casey who rose to the top. findley’s game was nearly identical to casey’s. that nose for goal is difficult to teach.

About Tom: Tom Auclair remembers watching the New England Tea Men when he was younger and thinking what a terrible name that was for a sports team. He has worked for the Rocky Mountain News, Longmont Daily Times-Call and several newspapers in New Hampshire. He's currently working as an editor and photographer for a collection of Web sites. He can't believe how quick Omar Cummings is.
