The Los Angeles Sol has signed Colorado College graduate Martina Franko, the team announced Thursday. Terms of the deal were not announced.

Franko, who made the move from forward to defender, has scored five goals and earned 54 caps with the Canadian national team. She is the head coach of the women’s soccer team at Quest University, of Squamish, British Columbia.

Franko played for the Vancouver Whitecaps from 2001-05 and won W-League championships in 2003 and 2005. She was the leading scorer in 2003 with over 18 goals.

She is second on Colorado College’s all-time scoring list with 107 points.

“Martina is an experienced leader who will bring a veteran presence to our young and diverse team,” Sol coach Abner Rogers said in a press release. “Her understanding of what it takes to be successful on the pitch will be invaluable to the success of our season.”
