My votes for player of the week, month

Here’s my ballot for North American Soccer Reporters player-of-the-month voting:
PLAYER NAME: Brian McBride, Chicago Fire
SECOND: Conor Casey, Colorado Rapids
COMMENTS: Four goals in the month appears to be the standard in April. Both of these players have set the bar, but McBride’s goals get the nod for artistry and for having an impact on a greater number of games (Casey’s four coming in only two matches). Casey had a chance to score a fifth but had a PK saved against Houston. Had I been allowed to vote for third place, I’d have chosen goalkeeper Kevin Hartman of K.C.
And here’s my ballot for player of the week:
PLAYER NAME: Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Columbus
COMMENTS: Only one from me this week. Schelotto was the league’s best player in 2008. and he’s on his way to being 2009’s best as well. Even though Columbus is struggling (and did this week), Schelotto was clicking through most of this game. Fire, intensity, skill. American sports fans don’t know his name, but they should take the opportunity to watch him play while he’s here. They won’t be disappointed.
Also for the sake of transparency, I’ll admit that I was the only voter who picked Schelotto. Javier Morales of Real Salt Lake won the weekly honor. After Morales, the leading vote-getters were Toronto’s Stefan Frei and D.C. United’s Chris Pontius. Wasn’t he on “Jackass”?

Can you hear me now?
How cute! Will there be a Rapids player involved? How could there not be!
But Bake is a good choice. Glad to have him back in the league.
