The Colorado Rapids have acquired defender Rob Valentino in a trade with the New England Revolution for midfielder Nico Colaluca, the teams announced Wednesday.

Valentino joins the Rapids after being drafted by the Revolution in the first round (13th overall) in the 2008 draft. Last season, he started in nine Reserve Division matches and in all three of New England’s U.S. Open Cup matches. He made one substitute appearance against Joe Public FC in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Colaluca, originally selected by the Rapids in the first round (sixth overall) in the 2007 draft, appeared in four games for Colorado, all during his rookie season. He also played in 18 reserve matches for the Rapids during the 2007 and 2008 seasons, scoring five goal.

New England will host the Rapids on May 16.
