MLS in Philadelphia: Join or die

Major League Soccer has expanded again, this time to Philadelphia.
The name of the team is the Philadelphia Union. It will begin play next spring, becoming the 16th team in the league. Teams in Portland, Ore., and Vancouver, British Columbia, will join in 2011.
Here’s a link to the team’s Web page.
You can already buy gear from the team’s store or from MLS.
And here’s something I like: The team explains why it chose the logo, the name, the colors and more. There’s even a team shield, which is where the “Join or die” comes from. It’s all broken down here. Enjoy.
And by the time the team begins play, it hopes to be in an 18,500-seat stadium. The building will be part of a $500 million Delaware River revitalization project in Chester, Pa. Read more about the stadium, and check out an artist’s rendering of the area here.

I think the Latin phrase is great.
isn’t it odd that Adidas will be printing those jersies with a logo/slogan pretty much stolen from Nike’s US soccer campaign. I know I’ve got a hat with a US soccer snake on it. I guess their slogan was ‘don’t tread on me’ … but still it seems odd.
interesting point, mikey.
here’s a link to some “don’t tread on me” u.s. soccer wallpaper:
