I pick the winners
MLS Daily has invited me to a new feature this week: picking the winners for week 12′s fixtures.
For each game I pick correctly, I get a point. For each game MLS Daily’s TJ Boyce gets right, he gets a point. We each area allowed to predict ties, and then there’s a wild card: We each may pick a “no brainer,” a game we think is a lock. That prediction is worth double points, so TJ and I better make it count.
And with apologies to David Letterman: Remember, this is not a competition, it is only an exhibition — please, no wagering. Unless you live in Nevada or Monaco, then bet the paycheck. Just don’t blame me when you lose.
So here goes, MLS week 12:
New York Red Bulls @ D.C. United
Georgie’s prediction: NO-BRAINER: D.C. UNITED WINS
comments: New York has not won a game on the road yet — has not even scored a goal.
Houston Dynamo @ Chicago Fire
Georgie’s prediction: Chicago wins.
comments: The safe pick here is a draw, but I’m going with the home club. If this isn’t the game of the week, then keep reading. …
Columbus Crew @ Kansas City Wizards
Georgie’s prediction: tie
comments: Crew playing better, but Wizards are better than people realize. This could be the best match of the week.
Los Angeles Galaxy @ Toronto FC
Georgie’s prediction: tie
comments: The Glax are doing just enough not to lose games: nine draws in 11 fixtures. They have the firepower, but Toronto has the support. Draw.
Colorado Rapids @ Real Salt Lake
Georgie’s prediction: tie
comments: The Rocky Mountain Cup is never a cut-annd-dried affair. Rapids playing well, but RSL hates ‘em. There will be blood.
Seattle Sounders FC @ Chivas USA
Georgie’s prediction: Chivas wins
comments: The Goats look to get some respect against the media-darling Sounders.
San Jose Earthquakes @ FC Dallas
Georgie’s prediction: Dallas wins
comments: Taking another risk here, but San Jose has given up a league-high 13 road goals.
New York Red Bulls @ New England Revolution
Georgie’s prediction: New England wins
comments: I kind of went out on a limb here. Despite New York being goal-less on the road, anything could happen when the two last-place teams meet. I think Matt Reis could be the difference for the Revs. Now they just have to put the ball in the net.
and, TJ, let me say this: thanks for letting me participate in a week in which the two last-place teams in each conference play each other. i’m sure nothing out of the ordinary will happen in those games …
