GOAL OF THE WEEK: Rapids striker Omar Cummings is up for voting for MLS goal of the week for his 88th-minute equalizer against Real Salt Lake on Saturday in Utah. Read all about it at the Rapids Undercurrent. And vote for Omar at MLSnet.com.

FORMER RAPIDS PLAYER RETIRING: In Chicago, veteran defender Brandon Prideaux announced that he will retire after this season, his 11th in the league. He started 21 games for the Rapids in 2007.

MLS POWER RANKINGS: The Rapids have climbed to No. 4 in the Major League Soccer power rankings. Have they ever been that high before? I don’t think so. Here’s the entire list.

MORE RAPIDS ALLIANCES: The Rapids have announced the launching of alliances with three Colorado youth soccer clubs. Joining the Rapids in the adidas Alliance are the Boulder County Force Soccer Club, the metro-area Colorado Storm Soccer Association and the Colorado Springs-based Pride Soccer Club. Rapids Technical Director Paul Bravo said the plan is to develop players for the Rapids’ first team. It will involve training on the player level, sharing coaching resources and philosophies, and encouraging players to stay in their home clubs in the U11-U14 age groups. Players in those three clubs will have direct access to the Rapids’ U16-U18 Development Academy teams through scouting, training and coaching. Steve Trittschuh, a former Rapids player and assistant coach, U.S. national team member and Tampa Bay Rowdies player, is technical director of the Colorado Storm. Trittschuh will coach the Rapids’ U16 Academy team, and Storm Director of Coaching Michael Haas will coach the Rapids’ U18 Academy team. Trittschuh appeared in 91 matches for the Rapids from 1996-98 and later served as an assistant coach from 2003-06.
