Rapids trade for Pat Noonan

The Colorado Rapids have acquired forward Pat Noonan in a trade with the Columbus Crew.
Colorado sent its 2010 first-round draft pick and allocation money to Columbus.
A seven-year MLS veteran, Noonan joins the Rapids having scored 38 goals and registering 32 assists in 135 career games. He has appeared in five games this season with the Crew.
Noonan began his career with New England and in just his second season won a share of the league’s scoring title with 11 goals and eight assists for 30 points. In 2007, he captured the MLS Cup after having led the Revolution to three consecutive MLS championship games. That same season, Noonan was also named Most Valuable Player in the team’s U.S. Open Cup championship victory.
Noonan made 11 appearances for Aalesunds FK of the Norwegian Premier League last year before joining the Crew on Aug. 6, just in time to join them for its 2008 MLS championship run.
The Rapids (4-2-5, fourth in the Western Conference) face Eastern Conference leaders D.C. United at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

With Casey playing for the Nats, this is a nice addition. I’ve always liked Noonan, but I’m not sure how well he fits in the long run for the Rapids.
well, if smith views him as a striker, he’s instantly the no. 3 striker on the team.
Thinking about who would be available in MLS (with the rumors that we were chasing a striker from another MLS club) — this seems like a great option. I started following MLS closely after Noonan started getting hurt, but it sounds like he’d provide depth at attacking mid as well?
yes. again, if smith is viewing him as a third striker … if that’s what this is about, it’s a great move.
