The Colorado Force hopes to extend its four-match unbeaten streak when it hosts the Los Angeles Legends at 7 p.m. Sunday in Loveland.
Sunday’s match winds up an early home stand at the Loveland Sports Park; the Force will not play again in Loveland until mid-July, although the team will take on the Sky Blue of Women’s Professional Soccer in an exhibition Wednesday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
The Force stands at 0-1-4 and has earned ties in four consecutive matches. Los Angeles, 1-3-2, has five points and is tied with the Ventura County Fusion for fourth place in the W-League’s seven-team Western Conference.
Los Angeles comes to town after knocking off Vancouver 3-1 on Thursday – the first win of the season for the Legends. The Force tied the Ventura County Fusion 1-1 on Wednesday night.
COLORADO TRIP CONTINUES: The Legends will travel to Highlands Ranch to face the Real Colorado Cougars at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
FIELD MARSHAL NIKKI: Nikki Marshall’s versatility has been on display this season. During the first five matches of the W-League season, Marshall has started at forward, midfield and defense. She’s second on the Force in minutes played (447), behind only goalkeeper Kara Linder (450).
SHOOTING SPREE: Midfielder Monica Dolinsky leads the Force in shots, with 11.
MISSING PLAYERS: Central defender Carly Peetz and forward Emmalie Pfankuch will miss Sunday’s game. Peetz is training with the U.S. U-23 national team, and Pfankuch is playing in a regional tournament with her U-19 Rush Nike club team.
PREVIOUS RESULTS: Last season, the Force beat the Legends 3-0 in Loveland and collected a 1-1 tie in Los Angeles.
ROAD TRIP: After Sunday, the Force looks ahead to five straight W-League fixtures on the road, starting with a Pacific Northwest trip to face Seattle on June 26 and the Vancouver Whitecaps on June 28.
LEGENDS COACH: Los Angeles is coached by Twila Kaufman, who recently spent five years as an assistant at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif. She was a four-year starter at the University of Arizona and played in the W-League for the Arizona Heatwave.
