With the Chicago Fire heading to Commerce City for Saturday’s big Fourth of July match, The Tuesday List does a little comparison between the two teams’ results this season.

The Colorado Rapids have been shut out two times this season:
1) Houston 1, Rapids 0, April 19 at Houston
2) Seattle 3, Rapids 0, June 28 at Seattle

The Fire also has been shut out twice:
1) Dallas 3, Chicago 0, May 31
2) Houston 1, Chicago 0, June 5

The Rapids have allowed more than two goals only once so far in 2009:
1) Seattle 3, Rapids 0, June 28 at Seattle

The Fire has allowed more than two goals twice so far:
1) San Jose 3, Chicago 3, April 11
2) Dallas 3, Chicago 0, May 31

And here’s a little something extra. I just voted for Omar Cummings for MLS player of the month for June. Here’s what I wrote on my North American Soccer Reporters ballot:

“FIRST CHOICE: omar cummings, colorado rapids
SECOND CHOICE: fredy montero, seattle sounders
YOUR NAME & AFFILIATION: george tanner, colorado soccer now
COMMENTS? cummings, in four games in june, had a winning goal and two tying goals among his four goals. he also added an assist. he was a constant threat in the absence of leading scorer conor casey, who missed most of the month because of national-team duties. in five games, montero had two winning goals and a tying goal in scoring four goals, and he had two assists against the rapids. i gave the edge to cummings because montero had an extra game to work with and because cummings did it despite drawing extra attention from defenses in the absence of casey.”
Columbus’ Guillermo Barros Schelotto was a very close third for me with four goals and two assists.

So what does this have to do with The Tuesday List? Well, let’s take a look at some of the Rapids’ accolades this year:
week 2: Terry Cooke nominated for goal of the week
week 3: Conor Casey wins player of the week, nominated for goal of the week
week 6: Colin Clark nominated for goal of the week
week 7: Kosuke Kimura nominated for goal of the week
week 10: Clark nominated for goal of the week
week 11: Casey wins player of the month, wins player of the week, nominated for goal of the week; Matt Pickens nominated for save of the week
week 12: Cummings wins goal of the week
week 14: Cummings named player of the week, nominated for goal of the week

The Rapids still need a CAM.
