The Colorado Rapids have signed Argentinian forward Facundo Diz, the team announced today. Diz, pictured at right, will be available to play Saturday against the New York Red Bulls at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The Colorado Force has qualified for the W-League playoffs on the strength of three consecutive victories, combined with three consecutive losses by the Seattle Sounders.

Christian Gomez, who didn’t fit into the Colorado Rapids’ plans last season, had a hand in all three D.C. United goals as the Rapids lost 3-1 Saturday at RFK Stadium. Jaime Moreno, Bryan Namoff and Luciano Emilio scored for D.C., and the Rapids’ goal came from a Namoff own goal.

The Vancouver Whitecaps will meet the Colorado Force at 7 tonight in Loveland and the Real Colorado Cougars at 1 p.m. Sunday in Highlands Ranch. Friday’s match is the Force’s regular-season finale, as is the Sunday game for Vancouver and Real Colorado.

Rapids coach Gary Smith said Wednesday’s exhibition against Club America was a good opportunity for members of the squad to get playing time against a quality opponent.
