Senior, freshman lead Buffs past UNC
Senior forward Kelly Menachof and freshman Erin Bricker scored as the University of Colorado beat Northern Colorado 2-1 in an exhibition on Sunday in Boulder.
In the third minute of play, CU sophomore Caroline Danneberg sent a perfect cross to Menachof, who took one touch then buried her shot in the lower left corner of the goal.
UNC responded 12 minutes later. Alexsys Tamayo was in position for two rebounds, and she tied the game on the second one.
The Buffs outshot the Bears 10-8 in the first half but had a clear advantage in the second half, racking up 13 shots to UNC’s five.
Colorado was awarded a corner kick in the 64th minute. Senior Ally Goodman directed the ball toward the center of the goal, where she found freshman Shaye Marshall. Marshall put a hard header on goal, but it was blocked by a UNC defender. Bricker was there for the rebound and tapped it past sophomore goalkeeper Kirsten Salminen for the winning goal.
Kassidy Fitzpatrick, Kelly Butler and Nikki Marshall all led the Buffs with three shots each.
