CU’s Marshall on Hermann Trophy list
University of Colorado senior Nikki Marshall has been named to the 2009 Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy watch list for the second consecutive season.
The Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious award in intercollegiate soccer.
Marshall is one of 45 players nominated for this award and is the first player in school history to earn the nomination twice.
The list is selected by a panel of Division I head coaches who are members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The initial list will be narrowed to 15 in November, with three finalists announced in December. They will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 8, when the winner will be announced.
With eight goals and three assists for 19 points, Marshall was CU’s second-leading scorer in 2008. She helped lead the Buffs to their sixth-straight NCAA tournament berth. Marshall, who was forced to miss three games during the 2008 season because of U-20 national-team obligations, had a team-leading 79 shots in 2008 and four game-winning goals.
Marshall has started every CU match she has played in since her arrival in 2006, and the 2009 preseason All-Big 12 first-team selection continues to rewrite the offensive categories in Colorado’s record book. Marshall is CU’s all-time leader in goals (34) and winning goals (15), and she sits in the top three for points (76) and shots on goal (98).
Colorado soccer fans will recognize two other names on the list of nominees. Kristin Arnold and Bri Young both have played for the Real Colorado Cougars of the W-League.
