The University of Colorado soccer team was picked to place third in the Big 12 Conference in a preseason vote of league head coaches, the Big 12 announced Wednesday.

Colorado is coming off of a fourth-place regular-season finish and a trip to the Big 12 Championship game, where the Buffs fell 1-0 to Missouri.

Missouri and Texas A&M were co-favorites for the Big 12 title. Each school had 91 points from the coaches, but the Aggies received six of 11 first-place votes. The Tigers had four.

Colorado followed with 76 points.

Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team. The rest of the conference, in order, was Oklahoma State, Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Baylor and Iowa State.

The preseason all-conference team was announced and included two Buffs: Nikki Marshall, who received the honor for the third year in a row, and sophomore defender Caroline Danneberg.

This marks the seventh year in a row that at least one Buffalo has been named to the team. Here’s the entire 2009 preseason All-Big 12 team:
