The Colorado School of Mines women’s soccer team claimed its first win of 2009, blanking Washburn 2-0 on Friday in Golden.

Kayla Mitchell scored the winning goal at the 30-minute mark, and she fed Allison Heeg just after the hour mark to stretch the Orediggers’ lead to two.

Mines held the Lady Blues to five shots and just two corner kicks. Briana Schulze recorded one save in the shutout.

Mines will host Nebraska-Omaha at noon Sunday.
