Rangers blast Northwest Nazarene 6-2
Kyle Emge and Jordan Brandel each scored twice as the Regis University men’s soccer team hammered Northwest Nazarene 6-2 on Saturday in Denver.
Lucas Mazier and Nathan Kafer also scored for the Rangers as Regis outshot the visitors 20-9.
Regis took the lead in the eighth minute. Donnie Montoya dribbled in from the right wing and crossed to Emge just in front of the net. Emge took the shot for goal number one. He collected his second just before the half ended on a cross from Kafer.
Both of Brandel’s goals came in the second half. He scored the Rangers’ fifth goal as Kafer served the ball to him from midfield. Crusaders goalie Alexander Engemann left the box to intercept the pass, but Brandel reached the ball first and was able to tap it past Engemann and into Northwest Nazarene’s net.
Brandel finished the scoring in the 75th minute.
Mazier scored on a penalty kick in the 20th minute.
Kafer scored his first goal of the season about nine minutes into the second half, and Greeley Central High School’s Ben Buhler recorded the assist.
Goalkeeper Wally Fink got the victory for the Rangers.
Northwest Nazarene got goals from Nate Hamm at the 30-minute mark, when the Crusaders cut the Regis lead to 2-1, and from Alonso Avila on a penalty kick at the hour mark. That goal made the score 4-2.
Regis will play Northeastern State and Midwestern state in a tournament Friday and Sunday in Wichita Falls, Texas.
