Freshman forward Brittany Henry and junior Laura Leber scored as the Minnesota State women’s soccer team knocked off Metropolitan State College 2-1 on Friday in Denver.

The Mavericks avenged a 1-0 loss to Metro State that ended their season last year in the NCAA tournament.

Henry broke a scoreless tie in the 51st minute with an assist from senior Abby Maxson. The goal was Henry’s first of her career at Minnesota State.

Metro tied the game in the 78th minute with a goal from Aleah DeGeneres.

Leber scored the winning goal with 3 minutes, 14 seconds remaining. The unassisted goal, which was Leber’s fifth goal of the season and 28th of her career, was scored after a Maverick corner kick that bounced around in front of the goal.

Minnesota State goalkeeper Sheila Reynolds recorded seven saves, all in the second half.
