Shots aplenty as Grizzlies, CCU tie 1-1
The Adams State College men’s soccer team snapped its 265-minute scoreless streak on Monday against Colorado Christian but could not capture its first-ever win. The Grizzlies and CCU tied 1-1 at Cougar Field in Lakewood.
Adams State sophomore midfielder Peter Freeman ended the goal-less skid in the 35th minute, scoring his second goal of the season. Rami Avalos got the assist as Adams State took a 1-0 lead.
A little more than five minutes later, though, Tim Flavin and Travis Reddick connected with goal scorer Corbin Siklosi on the equalizer
The rest of the 110-minute, double-overtime game was full of chances but no goals for either team.
Grizzlies goalkeeper Jarod Thomas broke his own school record by recording 10 saves. Colorado Christian’s Jared Jacobs made six saves and got help from his defenders, who prevented goals on two shots by Adams State sophomore Joseph Jallow late in the first half. Jacobs also made a kick-save on a shot by David Powers in the final minute of regulation.
Colorado Christian outshot Adams State 24-17 in regulation and 29-21 overall.
Adams State will now make a three-match swing through Utah, where they will face NAIA opponents Westminster on Friday and Embry-Riddle on Sunday in Salt Lake City before heading to St. George to take on Dixie State on Monday.
Colorado Christian will meet College of the Southwest at 11 a.m. Friday at Colorado State-Pueblo.
