The No. 13 Metropolitan State College women’s soccer team, led by Becca Mays’ three goals, cruised to a 5-1 victory over Colorado-Colorado Springs on Friday evening in Colorado Springs. The Roadrunners improved to 8-1-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while UCCS dropped to 2-4-0, 1-4-0 in conference.

Mays’ three goals marked her third career hat trick and her second this season. She also scored three times in a win over Colorado Mines on Sept. 11. Friday was also her 13th career multi-goal game.

Mays got her first just 30 seconds into the second half then added back-to-back goals in the 71st and 75th to break open the game.

Jen Thomas and Ashley Nemmers also scored for the Roadrunners, while Madison McQuilliams, Courtney Ryan, Aleah DeGeneres and Caitlin Oliver had assists.

Goalkeeper Becca Maloney stopped four shots and did not allow a goal. Backup goalkeeper Alee Seehausen made one save, but was victim to UCCS’ lone goal in the closing minutes.

Krista Mirabelli put UCCS on the board in the 87th minute. Ashley Collins’ cross hit Mirabelli in the upper thigh and deflected into the net.

The Roadrunners will host their homecoming game at noon Sunday against Colorado State-Pueblo. Festivities, including free food, will go on throughout the women’s game and the men’s game, which begins at 2:30 p.m. against No. 9 Fort Lewis.

LaVoie, a senior, gave her team an early lead with an unassisted tally at 3:10, chipping a rebound into the upper right corner of the net after Ericka Baer’s header of a Beth Wright corner kick was blocked in the box. At 4:34, LaVoie scored from just outside the left post on a one-timer off Brown’s pass from the right side. Brown scored four minutes into the second half and in the 61st minute.
