Metro win streak grows to 12 games
The sixth-ranked Metropolitan State College women’s soccer team stretched its winning streak to 12 games with a 3-0 win against Colorado Christian on Wednesday in Lakewood.
The Roadrunners improved to 14-1-0 overall and 11-0-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Cougars dropped to 4-5-2 and 2-5-1 in the RMAC.
The 12-game winning streak ties for the second-longest winning streak in school history. This is the third time Metro State has won 12 in a row, the previous two times coming in 2003 and 2006. The school record is 46 games, from Sept. 5, 2004, through Nov. 13, 2005.
Jen Thomas scored twice for the Roadrunners. She put Metro State on the board in the 11th minute on Ashley Munchiando’s cross from the corner.
Becca Mays made the score 2-0 six minutes later as she finished Courtney Ryan’s free kick.
Thomas scored again eight minutes into the second half as she finished a pass from Ashley Nemmers in front of the net in traffic.
The Metro State defense allowed two shot attempts as Becca Maloney, who stopped the Cougars’ only shot on goal.
The Roadrunners will host Regis at 1 p.m. at Auraria Field, in downtown Denver.
