The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference has announced that the 2009 RMAC women’s soccer championship will be hosted by Metropolitan State College of Denver at Auraria Field in downtown Denver.

In previous years, the tournament host was not announced until after the regular season was concluded and was always held at the highest seeded team that wished to host in, almost always the regular-season champion.

But this year, to save membership expenses and maintain “student-athlete life in the balance,” the RMAC has instituted a pilot program to determine the hosts of many RMAC tournaments. In women’s soccer, the highest-seeded team with two weeks remaining in the regular season with a bid approved by the RMAC Championships Committee was named tournament host.

The Roadrunners currently lead the RMAC with a 13-0 record.

The tournament’s semifinals will be held on Nov. 6, and the championship will be played Nov. 8. Times have not yet been announced.

Tickets for adults will cost $7. Students are $3, and children are $1.

As in previous years, the tournament’s first round will still be played on campus sites of the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds on Nov. 4.

Fort Lewis College was selected by the RMAC Championships Committee as the men’s soccer tournament host and will do so Nov. 6 and 8 at Dirks Field in Durango.
