BYU pulls away in second half
Brigham Young scored three second-half goals Friday night to capture a 3-0 victory over Air Force in a Mountain West Conference women’s soccer game Saturday evening at Cadet Soccer Stadium. With the victory, BYU improved to 14-2-2 and 5-0-1 in the conference. The Falcons fell to 2-14-1 and 0-6 in league play.
After a scoreless first half in which the Cougars outshot Air Force 10-3, Carlee Payne put BYU ahead 1-0 in the 67th minute after taking a crossing pass from Mercede Koning and volleying the ball past Falcon goalie Ariana Green. Kelsea Kakadelas was also credited with an assist on the play.
The Cougars scored an insurance goal in the 79th minute off a corner kick by Alyssa Vander Vuer that Lindsi Lisonbee headed past Green for her first goal of the season. Auna Janis also scored her first goal of the season after chipping a shot over Green and into the net in the 86th minute after taking a through-pass from Payne.
BYU took 16 shots in the game, eight on goal. Green made five saves for Air Force, which managed five shots and placed just two on BYU goalie McKinzie Olson.
It was Senior Night at the stadium as Air Force seniors Susan Finch and Kelsey Yip were honored prior to their final game at home.
The Falcons close out its regular season Saturday against Utah in Salt Lake City.
