University of Denver senior midfielders Mariah Johnston and Kelli Breidenbach combined for the only goal as the Pioneers shut out North Texas 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.

In the 20th minute, Johnston dribbled from the right side of the field and fed Breidenbach inside the box for a one-timer from eight yards.

That was the only goal Denver (14-5-1, 9-2-0 SBC) needed, as freshman goalkeeper Lara Campbell recorded six saves for the shutout. Freshman goalkeeper Haley Newsom recorded six saves in her first career start for the Mean Green (11-6-2, 7-2-2 SBC).

The Pioneers’ victory clinches the No. 2 seed in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla. Denver will meet the No. 7 seed at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The Pioneers are looking for their fourth-straight SBC Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance.

Florida International, which won its last seven games, is the No. 1 seed in the tournament.
