The second-seeded University of Denver women’s soccer team will face No. 7 seed Troy on Wednesday afternoon in the Sun Belt Conference tournament in Boca Raton, Fla.

The Pioneers (14-5-1, 9-2-0 SBC) face the Trojans (7-9-1, 5-6-0 SBC) for the second time this season. DU beat Troy 1-0 on Oct. 9 in Denver, as Mariah Johnston scored 21 seconds into the game. Denver leads the all-time series with Troy 5-0.

The Pioneers ended the regular season on top of multiple statistics in the conference, including shots, goals, points, assists and shutouts. Three players, Kaitlin Bast, Lara Campbell and Johnston, have been named SBC players of the week. Bast earned the honor twice this season.

DU’s senior class is going for an unprecedented fourth-straight SBC tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance. Denver has won six of the nine SBC Tournaments (2001, ’02, ’03, ’06, ’07, ’08). North Texas (2004, ’05) and this year’s No. 1 seed, Florida International (2000), are the only other schools to have won it.

According to College Soccer 360, the Pioneers’ senior class is tied for the eighth-most wins of any senior class in the nation. The team’s overall record is 65-15-9 in the past four years.

The winner of Wednesday’s game will face either Western Kentucky or Arkansas State on Thursday. The championship game will be Saturday morning.
