Freshman forward Kaitlin Bast scored two goals as the University of Denver women’s soccer team defeated Troy 3-0 in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference tournament on Wednesday in Boca Raton, Florida. The Pioneers face Arkansas State on Thursday.

Jordan Brandel scored twice, goalkeeper Wally Fink got on the scoresheet and Patrick Bonitatibus, Adam Hinkelman, James Copeland and Nathan Kafer added goals as Regis University wrapped up its regular season with a 7-0 victory on Tuesday at home against Colorado Christian.

The second-seeded University of Denver women’s soccer team will face No. 7 seed Troy on Wednesday afternoon in the Sun Belt Conference tournament in Boca Raton, Fla.

Major League Soccer released the finalists for the league’s 2009 awards today, and Galaxy striker Landon Donovan certainly was among them. Mariah Johnston and Kelli Breidenbach combined for the only goal and Lara Campbell made six saves as the University of Denver shut out North Texas 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
