Champions first, now All-Americans: Settle, Purcell honored by NSCAA

Tom Settle and Euan Purcell of the Fort Lewis College men’s soccer team have been recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Settle, a senior midfielder from Portsmouth, England, was named to the NSCAA All-America first team. He scored nine goals and added 19 assists in 24 games, 23 of them starts.

Purcell, a senior from Bolton, England, led Fort Lewis with 21 goals and 45 points in 20 games. Four of his goals were game winners.

The national champion Skyhawks had two players honored. Cal State-Los Angeles claimed the lion’s share of berths on the team, with four players earning recognition. Four other schools each had three players named.

Early this month, top-ranked Fort Lewis claimed its second national championship with a 1-0 victory over Lees-McCrae at Pepin Stadium in Tampa, Fla.
