DU announces women’s schedule
The four-time defending Sun Belt Conference champion University of Denver women’s soccer team will host nine games, including one against regional rival Colorado, and will face 2009 NCAA Tournament teams UCLA and Washington State as part of DU’s 2010 schedule, head coach Jeff Hooker announced today.
Following a home exhibition against Nebraska (Aug. 15) and the season opener at Loyola Marymount (Aug. 27), the Pioneers will host the home opener against Buffalo, which is coached by former DU assistant Michael Thomas.
On Sept. 4-6, Denver will host the DU Invitational, a tournament in which the Pioneers will face Colorado and UNLV will take on Drake during the first day.
The Pioneers next travel to Spokane, Wash., to face Washington State (Sept. 10), which advanced to the second round of last year’s NCAA Tournament, and Gonzaga (Sept. 12).
Denver once again will take part in the Colorado Soccer Classic in Boulder, Colo. They Pioneers will meet UCLA (Sept. 17), which advanced to the NCAA Tournament semifinals last season, and Big 10 power Purdue (Sept. 19). DU has fared well in the tournament in recent years, going 4-1-1 in the past three seasons, including a win over No. 1 Stanford in 2007.
In conference play, the Pioneers will host Louisiana-Lafayette (Oct. 1), Louisiana-Monroe (Oct. 3), Florida Atlantic (Oct. 15), Florida International (Oct. 17), Arkansas-Little Rock (Oct. 24) and North Texas (Oct. 29). DU will travel to Middle Tennessee (Sept. 24), Western Kentucky (Sept. 26), South Alabama (Oct. 8), Troy (Oct. 10) and Arkansas State (Oct. 21).
The Sun Belt Conference Tournament will be held at Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, Tenn., on Nov. 2-7.
The Pioneers won their league record fourth-consecutive Sun Belt Conference Tournament title in 2009, earning a berth in their fourth-straight NCAA Tournament.
