CC soccer adds two more
Colorado College’s incoming class for the 2010 women’s soccer season has expanded to seven after two more recruits committed to the Tigers, head coach Geoff Bennett announced Monday.
Joining CC’s roster as freshmen late this summer will be midfielder/defender Sarah Haizlip of San Francisco, California, and defender Shaina Riciputi of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Five other players made commitments to the program earlier this year.
A former member of California’s Olympic Development Program, Haizlip helped her club team – De Anza Force – claim State Cup and national championships in 2009. She also lettered four years at Lick-Wilmerding High School in San Francisco, serving as team captain her senior season after earning first-team All-Bay Counties League honors as a sophomore and junior.
Riciputi, whose club squad – Rio Vista ‘92 Showcase – claimed a New Mexico state championship in 2009, served as a senior captain for Los Alamos High School as a senior and led the team to a surprising run to the state finals. An Olympic Development Program participant from 2004 through ‘09, she played at both the center defender and attacking midfielder positions, and finished with 16 goals and 13 assists that season.
“We are very pleased with the addition of these fine student-athletes,” Bennett said. “Both Sarah and Shaina are quality defenders who will come in and look to compete for playing time right away. We see Sarah competing for time as an outside defender and Shaina to compete as a central defender. Both have the mentality to compete at this level and we are excited to see how they fare once pre-season starts.”
