Rapids SCORES Denver kids event
The Colorado Rapids announced Thursday that the club has partnered with America SCORES Denver to host the SCORES Jamboree soccer festival for Denver Public Schools students before school ends for the 2010 spring semester.
The Jamboree will take place Friday from 5-8 p.m. on fields 8 and 10 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
The Jamboree will coincide with the build-up to the 2010 World Cup, which takes place this June and July.
The Jamboree concludes America SCORES Denver’s spring World Cup curriculum, which consists of lesson plans constructed by the Rapids and America SCORES Denver that Denver Public Schools teachers have implemented the past 10 weeks of school. Each child got the chance to learn about the World Cup and was provided extra incentive to follow along with the tournament. Activities in the curriculum included soccer games, outdoor exercises and indoor study aids to help students learn.
Participating classes will arrive at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, with each representing one of the 32 World Cup participants as their “home team,” and exchange representative flags with each opponent throughout the soccer festival.
Each America SCORES Denver student who has successfully completed both the education aspect of the World Cup curriculum and participates in the Jamboree will receive a complimentary ticket to a 2010 Colorado Rapids home game.
“The Rapids are Colorado’s conduit to the world’s most popular and passionate sport,” said Jeff Plush, managing director of the Colorado Rapids. “The global nature of soccer lends itself to being able to create a truly diverse learning platform. By partnering with America SCORES Denver, we can serve as a resource to our educators in conjunction with the world’s biggest event this summer, and we hope we can do our part to help educate Colorado’s youth while also making it fun.”
“The World Cup draws people together from all over the world, and to be able to expose our local poet-athletes to the event’s international impact at an early age is a tremendous first step in making them global citizens,” said America SCORES Denver Executive Director Brandon Blew. “The Jamboree, hosted by the Rapids at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, is a memorable way to finish off a great spring season and an exciting transition into the summer and the World Cup.”
