Major League Soccer and the North American Soccer Reporters selected Real Salt Lake forward Álvaro Saborío as Major League Soccer’s Player of the Month for May.

Saborío recorded four goals and three assists in five games, helping Real Salt Lake to a 5-0-0 record in May.

In addition to starting all five games in May, Saborío recorded a goal or an assist in each match, leading his team to a club record five straight wins and extending Salt Lake’s home unbeaten streak to 18 games.

While this is Saborío’s first MLS Player of the Month honor, he was recognized earlier in May as the MLS Player of the Week for Week 8 thanks to his outstanding two-goal performance against the Houston Dynamo on May 13.

CSN Take: Our votes went to Landon Donovan and Joe Cannon. Donovan has never played more consistently better than he did in the lead up to the World Cup. His play with the LA Galaxy was excellent and a big part of the team’s success. Cannon, the former Rapids keeper, went most of May without giving up a goal. His streak is a big reason why San Jose is a contender and not a pretender.

The Winner: I can’t fault the selection of Saborío. He had a great month, but I was more impressed with Donovan and Cannon.
