Early lead evaporates for Force
A fifth-minute goal was the bright spot for the Colorado Force on Thursday night against the visiting Pali Blues.
The Californians, undefeated since joining the league in 2008, improved to 28-0-3 in the W-League with a 3-1 victory at Loveland Sports Park.
Midfielder Lisa Kosena provided the early spark for the Force and a crowd of 475 with the opening goal. Her teammates, especially goalkeeper Lauren Robertson with seven saves, made the lead hold up for the next hour. Then the floodgates opened as Pali’s Ali Hawkins scored in the 65th minute. The tie was short lived, as Toney Dani added a brace with goals in the 72nd and 83rd minutes.
The loss dropped the Force to 0-2-3 (3 points). Pali Blues improved to 2-0-0 (6 points) and leads the Western Conference.
Push Pause: The Force, which has played five games this season, is now off until June 26. The team faces Santa Clarita at 7 p.m. June 26 at Loveland Sports Park.
Pali’s Next: The Blues continue play in Colorado at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday against the Colorado Rush at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park Field No. 24. The Rush is off to a 0-0-2 start in the team’s inaugural season.
