The Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee fined New York Red Bulls Head Coach Hans Backe $2,500 for public criticism of MLS officiating.
His comments appeared in the May 30 edition of the Boston Globe following his team’s 3-2 loss to the New England Revolution.
 
Fines collected are donated to MLS W.O.R.K.S., Major League Soccer’s community outreach initiative dedicated to addressing important social issues affecting young people and serves as a platform for both League and club philanthropic programs.  MLS W.O.R.K.S. seeks to establish Major League Soccer as a leader for improving the …

Major League Soccer and the North American Soccer Reporters selected Real Salt Lake forward Álvaro Saborío as Major League Soccer’s Player of the Month for May.
Saborío recorded four goals and three assists in five games, helping Real Salt Lake to a 5-0-0 record in May.
 
In addition to starting all five games in May, Saborío recorded a goal or an assist in each match, leading his team to a club record five straight wins and extending Salt Lake’s home unbeaten streak to 18 games.
