Real Salt Lake forward Álvaro Saborío was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters for Week 14 of the 2010 MLS season.  Saborío tallied two goals in Salt Lake’s 5-0 win over the New England at Rio Tinto Stadium on Friday, extending the team’s undefeated streak to nine games in league play.

With Salt Lake leading 2-0 in the 52nd minute, the Costa Rican international added RSL’s third goal of the night. Having stepped in front of his defender in the six-yard box, Saborío pounced on teammate Robbie Russell’s perfectly placed ball from the right wing. With his first touch, he poked the ball into the upper right corner, past goalkeeper Matt Reis, for his sixth goal of the season.

Despite the lead, Salt Lake continued to attack and just five minutes later Saborío put away his second goal of the game.  In the 57th minute, Javier Morales drove a low ball across the box, through defensive traffic, and Saborío steered the ball into the net with with a backheel shot.

This is Saborío’s second career MLS Player of the Week award. The 28-year-old first earned the honor in Week 8 of this season after scoring twice in a May 13 defeat of the Houston Dynamo. Saborío went on to collect the Player of the Month award for May.
