Ft. Lewis picked top men’s, women’s
Defending national champion Fort Lewis College men were picked to top the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, as were the women, in a preseason poll of coaches.
The Skyhawks, who went 14-0-0 in the conference in 2009, were the top pick of eight of the nine coaches. Colorado School of Mines received the lone other first-place vote and was tabbed to finish second.
Metro State followed in third, with Regis in fourth. Mesa State and UC-Colorado Springs tied for fifth with CSU-Pueblo, Colorado Christian and Adams State rounding out the men’s rankings.
In the women’s poll, eight-time defending RMAC champions Metro State garnered two first-place votes, but were picked second behind Fort Lewis. The women from Durango had five first-place votes among the 11 cast.
Regis, with two first-place votes, nabbed third. Colorado School of Mines picked up the other two first-place votes and was picked fourth. The Orediggers, at No. 7, are the highest ranked RMAC team in the preason national poll. Only one other RMAC team, Metro State, at No. 10, made the national poll.
Mesa State, UC-Colorado Springs and Colorado Christian followed in fifth, sixth and seventh. CSU-Pueblo, New Mexico Highlands, Adams State and Nebraska-Kearney rounded out the poll.
