Pioneer tops Sun Belt list
Pioneer women’s soccer freshman forward Kristen Hamilton was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, the SBC announced Tuesday.
“Kristen has had a tremendous start to the season and this weekend was an indicator of how well she has played the past month,” head coach Jeff Hooker said. “Two goals in the last two minutes was incredible to witness.”
Hamilton scored her second game-winning goal in the past three games on Sunday as Denver defeated Purdue 2-1. After her first goal tied the game at 1-1 with 80 seconds to play, Hamilton scored the game-winning goal as the buzzer sounded to give the Pioneers the 2-1 victory. She scored on both shots on goal against the Boilermakers, which included an unassisted play and scoring off of her own rebound.
On Friday, Hamilton created havoc in the attack in the 85 minutes she played against No. 10 UCLA. The freshman forward leads the Pioneers in game-winning goals and is tied for second on the team in goals and assists.
This marks the first SBC award for Hamilton and for the Denver women’s soccer team this season.
The Pioneers hit the road to face Middle Tennessee on Friday and Western Kentucky on Sunday.
