Looking at a record run
Sunday’s draw at New Mexico Highlands University looked like a blip on Metro State’s conference schedule – a one-off drop after a long road trip to Las Cruces, New Mexico.
After Wednesday’s 3-2 loss to Regis University, it’s looking like the start of trend.
For the first time since Sept. 21, 2007, the Roadrunners women’s soccer team has lost a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match. In fact, the team that has won two national titles in the past decade and started the week ranked No. 3 in the country, is now riding a two-match winless streak in the RMAC.
In many ways, this looks like the end of an era.
In recognition of what has passed, the Thursday List looks at how the Roadrunners have fared in conference games since beginning a streak of eight straight RMAC titles in 2002.
Year Record
2002 12-0-2
2003 14-0-0
2004 14-0-0
2005 14-0-0
2006 12-0-0
2007 10-1-1
2008 11-0-2
2009 16-0-0
For those of you keeping track, that’s five draws, one loss and 103 wins over eight seasons. Wow.
Now standing 1-1-1 in the RMAC, the Roadrunners face league-leading Colorado School of Mines at 4 p.m. on Friday before finishing the weekend with Colorado Christian at noon on Sunday. Both games are at Auraria Field in Denver.
