A promising start to the Big 12 season continued to dissolve on Friday night, as CU dropped it’s third straight conference match.

This time, it was the University of Missouri spoiling the atmosphere at Prentup Field, generating just enough offense to tip the Buffaloes 1-0.

Mizzou netted the game’s only goal to take a 1-0 lead off a corner kick in the 64th minute. Hayley Krentz sent the ball toward the goal from the corner on the right side of the field. Jessica Greer connected with the ball on a header and buried it in the back of the net.

“We need to work on defending corners because it’s disgusting how many times we’ve been scored on by them,” CU’s Kate Russell said. “We need to capitalize on our chances so hopefully we can do that Sunday.”

The Tigers spent must of the rest of the afternoon butting heads with the Buffs and the rulebooks as they were whistled for 16 fouls to CU’s six.

Colorado (5-7-1, 1-3-1 Big 12) picked up its third straight loss as Missouri (5-5-2) improved to 3-1 in conference play.

“The good news is that we still have three at home so maybe we’ll win three, at least we’ll try,” head coach Bill Hempen said. ”When you get those chances early like we have before, and we don’t score on them, you’re just asking for trouble. If you get one [goal] you got a shot [to win].”

The Buffs have been held scoreless for a total of 393:25 minutes dating back to Sept. 24 when Lizzy Herzl scored the gamewinning goal to upset then No. 6-ranked Texas A&M 2-1 in overtime.

“We certainly have had opportunities,” Hempen said. “It’s just finishing at the end when you need it the most. At this point it’s definitely becoming an issue. We’re not going to get anywhere without scoring.”

The Buffaloes return to Prentup Field on Sunday to host Iowa State at 1 p.m. Ralphie will make a special appearance at the game as she will run right before kickoff.
