Schumacher’s touch makes the day
The Fort Lewis Skyhawks extended their hold on the RMAC’s top spot with a home win on Sunday, while Regis romped.
Fort Lewis 1, Metro State 0: In a showdown of current leaders against eight-time conference champions, the Skyhawks shutout the Roadrunners on Sunday in Durango.
Nicole Schumacher’s 57th minute strike proved the difference as No. 7 Fort Lewis improved to 11-1-0, 7-1-0 RMAC. Metro State fell to 9-2-1, 5-2-1 RMAC.
The loss marked the first time Metro State has lost more than one conference game since beginning its run of RMAC titles in 2002.
Regis 6, Colorado-Colorado Springs 1: The Rangers stayed within striking distance of the conference leaders after drubbing the Mountain Lions.
Jordan Miller scored a hat trick, Marissa Davis had two goals, and Meghan Stuart had one in the win. Ashley Hooper scored for the Mountain Lions on an assist from Julia Saenz.
Regis moved to 9-4-0, 6-2-0 RMAC with the win. UCCS fell to 6-5-0, 3-4-0 RMAC.
Adams State 2, Colorado Christian 2: Two overtime sessions weren’t enough for the Grizziles and the Cougars.
Courtney Garcia and Leah Balcar scored for the Cougars, while the Grizzlies got two own goals to escape with the tie.
Adams State moved to 3-8-1, 2-5-1 RMAC with the draw. Colorado Christian is 1-11-1, 1-7-1 RMAC.
In men’s RMAC soccer, with the top-ranked Orediggers idle, Fort Lewis and Metro State solidified their spots in the conference rankings with convincing wins.
Metro State 3, Mesa State 1: Steven Emory and Walter Bertini each had a goal and an assist as the Roadrunners handled the Mavericks in Grand Junction on Sunday.
David Toler had the other goal for Metro State as the Roadrunners erased a 31st minute Nathan Poirier strike.
Metro State, which lost in overtime Friday to the resurgent Skyhawks in Durango, improved to 8-2-2, 5-1-2 RMAC. Mesa State dropped to 6-5-2, 2-5-2 RMAC with the loss.
Regis 8, Adams State 1: The growing pains continued for the second-year men’s soccer team as the Grizzlies gave up eight goals to an opponent for the third time in the past four games.
This time is was to the benefit of Regis, as Kyle Emge had a hat trick, Nathan Kafer scored twice and had an assist, and Nduo Chilaka punched in two goals. Keegan Bast has the other goal, and Justin Ortinau had three assists.
Joseph Jallow, off an assist from Kyle Lanham, broke up the shutout with a 25-yard shot in the 60th minute, salvaging a little pride for Adams State.
Regis moved to 8-1-2, 4-1-2 RMAC, while Adams State slipped to o-11-0, 0-8-0 RMAC.
Fort Lewis 3, Colorado-Colorado Springs 0: The Skyhawks continued their resurgence by dismantling the Mountain Lions on Sunday afternoon.
Thomas Hoang, Keane Hamilton and Joey Madigan scored for Fort Lewis, which improved to 7-4-0, 6-1-0 RMAC. UCCS dropped to 2-8-1, 1-5-1 RMAC.
CSU-Pueblo 3, Colorado Christian 0: The Thunderwolves romped on Sunday.
With the win, CSU-Pueblo improved to 6-6-0 overall, 5-3-0 RMAC. Colorado Christian dropped to 1-11-0, 1-7-0 RMAC.
