Colorado School of Mines’ Chris Bostic and Megan Woodworth were selected as the 2010 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Soccer Academic Player of the Year for the men and women, respectively, as announced by the RMAC on Tuesday.

Bostic, a senior defender from Erie, Colorado, is a Mechanical Engineer major with a 3.86 cumulative grade point average. Bostic has helped anchor an Oredigger defense that has allowed just five goals all season. Mines’ defense ranks first in the RMAC in goals allowed, goals against average (0.45) and shutouts (7).

To qualify for Academic All-RMAC, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution. The student athletes GPA is what they had prior to soccer season beginning. RMAC Sports Information Directors at schools that sponsor the sport of men’s soccer selected the First and Second Teams.

The No. 1-ranked Orediggers (10-0-1, 7-0-1 RMAC) play at Colorado Christian Wednesday at 4 p.m. Mines finishes the week at home against UC-Colorado Springs on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and on Sunday CSM will host Adams State at 2:30 p.m.

On the women’s side, Woodworth’s win marks the third consecutive year in which a women’s soccer player from Mines has received the honor. Kayla Mitchell won the award in 2008 and 2009.

Woodworth, a sophomore midfielder from Centennial, Colorado, is a Chemical Engineering major with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. A Pre-Season All-RMAC selection, Woodworth leads the squad with six goals and four assists ranking in the top five in the conference in points, goals and assists. Woodworth established a new CSM single-game record when she tallied three assists in a win against Colorado Christian earlier this season.

The Orediggers (5-3-3, 4-2-1 RMAC) will play three games this week; two at home and one on the road. CSM will host Colorado Christian Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Mines will play at Nebraska-Kearney on Friday at 6 p.m. The Orediggers return home to close out the week on Sunday against N.M. Highlands at noon.
