Cowgirls win wild one
The Buffs rallied on Thursday but came up short in yet another grueling Big 12 showdown, this time falling to OSU 3-2.
The Buffaloes (6-8-1) fall to 2-4-1 in conference play as the Cowgirls (13-1-1) stayed undefeated in the Big 12 with a 6-0 mark.
“(We) played pretty good, but again you can’t play pretty good for a little bit of time,” head coach Bill Hampen said. “You have to play pretty good a lot more than we did.”
The Cowgirls scored in the 9th minute on a Krista Lopez goal, and held that lead into halftime.
Katie Richardson doubled the margin in the 48th minute when her close range shot was deflected by ‘keeper Annie Brunner, but the rebound went directly back to Richardson who booted it high over Brunner’s head.
The Buffaloes answered with their first goal less than a minute later, as Kate Russell served the ball to Kassidy Fitzpatrick, who shot the ball into the lower right side of the net.
CU tied the game 2-2 on a score by Shaye Marshall off a corner kick from Caroline Danneberg in the 58th minute.
OSU answered in the 59th minute. Richardson sprinted down the field with the ball past several Colorado defenders. Brunner left her box to try and cut off her angle, and Richardson sent the game-winner into an open net to give OSU the final margin.
