Colorado School of Mines men’s soccer player Tesho Akindele is highlighted in the Oct. 28th issue of Sports Illustrated in the Faces in the Crowd section.

This is the second time that a CSM student-athlete has been featured in Faces in the Crowd. Joel Hamilton, a cross country All-American, was highlighted in 2006.

Akindele, a freshman forward from Thornton, Colorado, was recognized for his three consecutive hat trick performance during a three-game stretch in October. Akindele became the first player in the history of RMAC men’s soccer to record three straight hat tricks.

On Wednesday, Oct. 13th, Akindele became just the second player in the history of Mines men’s soccer to score four goals in a game as he tied the school record while playing just 35 minutes in the match.

Akindele recorded three shots and put all three in the back of the net against UC – Colorado Springs while adding an assist on Friday, Oct. 15th.

In the final game of the week against Adams State on Sunday, Oct. 17th, Akindele added his third hat trick of the week in just 36 minutes on the field.

In three games, Akindele scored 10 goals, tallied one assist and finished with 21 total points while playing 132 minutes out of 270 total minutes earning him RMAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Akindele currently leads Division II in total goals (tied – 17), ranks third in total points (38) and goals per game (1.06) and is fourth in points per game (2.38).

The fourth-ranked Orediggers (14-1-1, 11-1-1 RMAC) close out the regular season on the road at Adams State College on Friday at 3 p.m. Mines, the 2010 RMAC Regular-Season Champions, will host the RMAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed and play either the No. 4 or No. 5 seed on Friday, Nov. 5th at 11 a.m.
