Metro, Regis, Mines players net top spots
For the second consecutive season, Steven Emory of Metro State has been selected as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year in men’s soccer, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Emory is second in the RMAC in points (40), goals (15) and assists (10). This is the third season in a row the Roadrunners have had the RMAC Player of the Year (Kellen Johnson in 2008). The Roadrunners went 8-4-2 in the conference and are the No. 4 seed in the RMAC Men’s Soccer Tournament. MSCD plays Mesa State on Wednesday at the Auraria Soccer Field. The winner advances to play top seed Colorado Mines in Golden on Friday.
Gary Cole of Regis is the 2010 RMAC Defensive Player of the Year. The Rangers have allowed just 17 goals on the season in 18 games played.
Tesho Akindele of Colorado Mines is the RMAC Freshman of the Year. Akindele leads the RMAC in points (41) and goals (18).
Frank Kohlenstein of Colorado Mines is the RMAC Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year. This is the second year in a row and the fifth time overall that Kohlenstein has earned the award. This gives Kohlenstein the most RMAC men’s soccer coah of the year awards in conference history.
The nine head men’s soccer coaches in the RMAC chose the all-conference teams (coaches cannot vote for their own players).
