The University of Denver women’s soccer team’s grade-point averaged ranked fourth among NCAA Division I teams, and DU men’s and women’s soccer teams both earned 2010 NSCAA College Team Academic Awards, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced.

The women’s team combined grade-point average was 3.61 in 2009-10. Only Central Michigan (3.76), Rice (3.63) and Toledo (3.63) ranked higher. The men earned a 3.08 cumulative GPA.

Denver was one of 125 schools to have both their men’s and women’s team earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award, which is given to teams with a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher. A total of 630 teams (194 men, 436 women) received the award.

Men’s senior defender Michael Perry was named a CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team member on Nov. 18, becoming just the third Denver men’s soccer player to earn the prestigious honor.

Women’s senior defender Megan Flannery and junior midfielder Kari Storslett earned CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 for the University Division last month, earning cumulative GPA’s of 3.94 and 3.97, respectively.

The Denver men’s team won the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation regular season championship in 2010 and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Pioneers (9-7-4) fell 1-0 to UC Santa Barbara in double overtime in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 18.

The women’s team won the Sun Belt Conference regular season title this year. Denver went 19-2-1 overall and a perfect 11-0-0 in the SBC regular season before falling to Middle Tennessee in a shootout after two overtimes in the SBC Tournament championship game. Despite ending the season ranked No. 22 by Soccer America and No. 24 in the NSCAA Division I Soccer Poll, the Pioneers did not make the 64-team NCAA Tournament field.
