An MLS Cup title left the Rapids in the worst of draft positions, and the team used its two selections on Thursday to grab a couple of young defenders.

Defender was the spot most in need of depth going into the draft, and the Colorado Rapids used the 18th and 36th picks to grab two college defenders.

With the final pick of the first round, the Rapids selected Eddie Ababio, 23. The defender from Ghana played college soccer at the University of North Carolina. With the final pick in the second round, Colorado grabbed Colins Givens, 22, a Michigan State University defender.

Ababio and Givens each stand 5-foot-11. Ababio is listed at 175 and Givens at 180.

The Rapids had traded away their third round selection to New England prior to the 2010 season. The MLS draft is only three rounds, with a supplemental draft to follow next week.
