The University of Denver men’s soccer team’s spring schedule includes 2011 NCAA Tournament participant Tulsa at home, as well as road games against Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids and MPSF foe New Mexico, head coach Bobby Muuss announced.

“With so much of our team returning, we wanted to put together a very challenging spring schedule, and I believe what we were able to put together will really benefit our program in our continued development,” Muuss said. “Facing three programs that qualified for the NCAA Division I Tournament last season, as well as the MLS Colorado Rapids and one of the top teams in NCAA Division II from a year ago, will give us highly competitive matches to evaluate our players development and test our team.”

After a match against DU Alumni on Friday, Denver will travel to Omaha, Neb., on March 26 to take on Creighton, which has appeared in 18 of the past 19 NCAA Tournaments, including three College Cups. The Pioneers then will head to Golden to take on Colorado School of Mines on April 6. The Orediggers claimed both the RMAC regular season and tournament titles in 2010, finishing the year 17-2-2 overall record and ranked No. 9 in the NSCAA Division II poll.

DU will take on Tulsa at University of Denver Soccer Stadium on April 9 at 7 p.m. as part of College Soccer Saturday. The Pioneers won the 2010 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, where they were edged 1-0 by UC Santa Barbara in double overtime during the first round. Tulsa beat Bradley in the NCAA Tournament First Round before falling to Indiana in the Second Round. Prior to that game, New Mexico and Creighton will meet at 4:30 p.m. in a rematch from the 2010 NCAA Tournament First Round, when Creighton advanced with a 4-1 victory before falling to SMU in the Second Round.

The Pioneers will meet rival New Mexico in Taos, N.M., as the headliner for the Taos Eco Park Grand Opening on April 16. FIFA, the world’s governing body of soccer, gave Taos Eco Park a two-star certification, making it the highest altitude certified FIFA 2 Star training facility in the world and just the fourth in the United States.

Denver concludes its spring season against the Colorado Rapids at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park training fields on April 19.

Seat back tickets for College Soccer Saturday are $10 and general admission tickets are $8 prior to April 9. Prices increase to $12 and $10, respectively, at the gate. Children 3 and younger are free, and groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $6. To reserve tickets before the event, mail, fax or e-mail the attached Ticket Form, or call 303-871-3923.
