History favors Rapids in game two

With Saturday’s season opening victory now history, the Colorado Rapids turn to the pressing issue of a road trip to Los Angeles and a date with Chivas USA for the weekend.

Winning the season opener for the fourth time in the past five seasons helps reverse years of futile starts for the Rapids, but it does not guarantee a great season.

Instead, The Tuesday List looks at how the team has performed in the second game of the season.

Overall, the Rapids are 7-2-6 (including a shootout win and a shootout loss) in the season’s second game. Get rid of the ticky-tacky shootouts and Colorado carries a 6-1-8 mark from the second games of the season.

During that same period, the Rapids have made the playoffs 10 times. Their second game record in seasons where the team did not make the playoffs is 2-1-2.

In second games of the season the average score is Rapids 1.67 - opponents 1.

So, with this knowledge in hand, we’ll take the Rapids to win 2-1 on Saturday.
