Rapids face D.C., blizzard

Twenty-four hours ago it was 80 degrees at the house and gorgeous. Now there are 2 inches of snow on the ground and it’s tough to see 100 yards through the storm.

So, game on!

Despite conditions that have swung from summer to winter in less than a day, the Colorado Rapids sent a notice about 15 minutes ago that the 5 p.m. contest against D.C. United will not be cancelled.

The National Weather Service forecast 2-4 inches in the foothills and less in Denver. However, my part of the metro area already has plenty of snow on the grass, and leaving the car outside for 45 minutes was enough to cover it in an inch or so of snow.

I hope management sticks to its plans and plays today. This could be fascinating. The ground is so warm, the snow is so heavy, and the wind is wickedly coming from the north. This may be one of the more challenging games ever, regardless of who steps on the pitch at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.

See you there!
