Freshman Kaitlin Bast scored her first goal for the University of Denver women’s soccer team as the Pioneers earned a 1-1 tie against No. 13 Illinois Sunday afternoon in Denver. The Illini outshot DU 23-5 through 90 minutes plus overtime.

Drew Beckie, Nick Brant and Austin Haller scored for the Pioneers in a 3-0 victory over Stanford on Saturday in Commerce City. The match was the Pioneers’ final exhibition before they open the regular season Friday against North Carolina State. The University of Denver men’s soccer team was ranked No. 25 in the nation in the TopDrawerSoccer.com preseason ranking. The Web site also selected Colorado, Colorado College and DU in its women’s Division I ranking.

The University of Denver men’s soccer recruiting class was ranked No. 18 in the nation by College Soccer News, marking the second straight season that DU cracked the Top 20.

The University of Denver men’s soccer team has added transfer Jesse Henderson, who played three seasons with the University of San Francisco, DU head coach Bobby Muuss announced.

Sam Garza’s professional-quality strike from the left side of the field to the inside of the right post helped lift the University of Denver to a 6-0 victory in a friendly against Regis University.
