Casey named player of the week

Colorado Rapids forward Conor Casey was voted Major League Soccer’s player of the week for week 21 of the 2009 season.

Casey scored three first-half goals on Saturday in the Rapids’ 4-0 victory against Chivas USA. It was Casey’s second hat trick of the season, and this marks the third time this season Casey has received the MLS weekly honor.

I actually voted for Omar Cummings, and I listed Casey as my second choice. Cummings had three assists against the Goats, and it was his effort in the Chivas penalty area that led to the PK that Casey scored his third goal on. Either one, Cummings or Casey, was a fine choice.

The MLS player of the week is selected during the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. Check out our links page to get to the NASR Web site.
